New Power Units
2026 brings fully new hybrid regulations — 50% electric power, 50% internal combustion. More energy deployment from driver controls, fundamentally changing race strategy.
Active Aero replaces DRS
No more DRS flap. Front and rear wings actively adjust mid-corner. New "Overtake Mode" deploys extra power within 1 second of the car ahead on designated straights.
11 Teams on the Grid
Cadillac joins as the 11th constructor — first new team since Haas in 2016. Audi enters as a works team (ex-Sauber). Three new engine suppliers: Audi, Ford (Red Bull), Honda stays.
Bahrain & Saudi Cancelled
Both GPs cancelled due to the Iran war and Middle East conflict. Season reduced from 24 to 22 rounds. Calendar now runs Australia → Abu Dhabi via 22 different circuits.
Madrid Debuts
Madrid joins the calendar for the first time in September — street circuit built around the IFEMA complex. Spain now hosts two GPs: Barcelona-Catalunya AND the new Madrid street circuit.
Final Dutch Grand Prix
Zandvoort hosts its last ever Dutch Grand Prix in August 2026. The circuit couldn't sustain the commercial requirements of an F1 event. It will also include a Sprint for the first time.
Season so far —
Mercedes have dominated the opening two rounds with back-to-back 1-2 finishes. George Russell won in Australia, Kimi Antonelli claimed his maiden win in China. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton secured his first Ferrari podium in Shanghai. Verstappen and Red Bull are uncharacteristically off the pace. McLaren had a disastrous China weekend — both cars failed to start. Cadillac and Audi have both scored points on debut.
